RECORDING & FILE STORAGE AT SIGNATURE SOUND The Policy Signature Sound is unable to store or maintain customer recordings or computer files. Logistically it is simply not feasible. Since many people have access to our computers, files on our drives are “public domain” and are not private. Also, we routinely erase everything on our drives. Signature Sound will not be held liable or responsible for files or recordings that remain in our studio. File Storage is Your Responsibility It is your responsibility to store your recordings and back them up. We recommend that all your project files are securely within your possession at the end of each day. There are 3 main methods you can use: External Hard Drive (Portable) Appropriate for multiple songs or larger projects. A typical drive will cost in the range of $180.00 to $220.00. Not all drives are the same—when purchasing an external hard drive, be sure to get a drive with the following specs: · FireWire External Hard Disk Drive · Minimum of 80 gigabytes capacity · FireWire cable (be sure you have one—they are not always included) · 911 Chip-Set · appropriate for use on a Macintosh digital audio recording system New drives (80gig formatted and ready-to-use) can be purchased here at the studio from Edit System Rentals for $195.00. Ask the Studio Manager or your Engineer for details. You can also shop at Cry Wolf (858-277-9653, a Macintosh specialist located one block away from the studio on Ruffner Court), Fry’s, Best Buy, Guitar Center, Professional Sound & Music, etc. CD-R or DVD-R (not DVD+R) Appropriate for a single song or smaller projects. We can back up your data to writable discs. Please note that this can add significantly to your session time cost, depending on the quantity of your files. We do provide complimentary blank CDs, but for DVD-R you must provide your own blank discs. Tape (2”, 1/2”, or DAT) Appropriate for analog recording and digital mixes. Tape can be purchased at Advance Recording Products (858-277-2540), or San Diego Audio & Video (858-541-0500), etc. Before Your Session We request that you do not begin your session until you have determined your method of storage, and have given it to your engineer. If you use a portable hard drive, we highly recommend that you test your drive prior to your session. Make sure that you can record and play back a Macintosh-based ProTools TDM session to your drive. We are happy to arrange a time with you to test the drive free of charge. Please note that if your drive does not function during your recording session, we will nonetheless bill you for the time. Thanks for working with us! Signature Sound |
